Why Toric Colored Contacts Take Longer (and How to Plan Ahead)

Standard colored contacts ship from stock. Colored toric lenses for astigmatism usually don't, because each pair is made for your prescription. Here is why that takes longer, how long to expect, and how to get lenses faster if your prescription fits our ready stock.

Why made-to-order toric lenses take longer

A toric lens has three prescription values: sphere (SPH), cylinder (CYL) and axis (AX). Sphere and cylinder each come in many steps, and axis can be any angle from 0 to 180 degrees. Multiply those together, then by every color, and there are far too many combinations to keep in stock. So most colored toric lenses are produced after you order, to your exact values, then checked, packed and shipped.

How long it takes

  • Made-to-order colored toric lenses: currently 28 to 35 days from your order.
  • Cotton Brown Ready Stock Express: ships within 3 to 5 business days, for prescriptions in the ranges below.

Ready Stock: the faster option

Cotton Brown Ready Stock Express is already made in common astigmatism prescriptions:

  • Sphere (SPH): 0.00 to −7.00 (minus powers only)
  • Cylinder (CYL): −0.75 to −5.00
  • Axis (AX): 10, 20, 30, 160, 170 or 180

If your prescription is in these ranges, Ready Stock is the quickest way to get colored lenses for astigmatism. If not, choose the made-to-order Cotton Brown toric or any shade in our colored contacts for astigmatism collection.

How to plan ahead

  • Order at least five weeks before you need them for an event, trip or photo shoot. For the holidays, order made-to-order toric lenses by 20 November.
  • Check your prescription first. It must be a current contact lens prescription with sphere, cylinder and axis. An expired or unreadable prescription can delay your order, so book your eye exam early if you need one.
  • Upload a clear copy at checkout, with every value readable.
  • Reorder before you run out. Our toric lenses are monthly, so place your next order before you open your last pair.

What happens after you order

Your prescription values are used to make your lenses, which are then shipped with tracking. If you have questions about your order, contact us with your order number and we'll help.

Every order is backed by our 30-day product quality guarantee. A valid prescription is required. New to toric lenses? Read our guide to colored contacts for astigmatism.
