Colored Contacts for Astigmatism: How Toric Color Lenses Work and How to Choose

If you have astigmatism, regular colored contacts can leave your vision blurry. Colored toric lenses fix that: they correct astigmatism and change your eye color at the same time. This guide explains how they work, what you need to order, and how to choose a shade.

Can you wear colored contacts if you have astigmatism?

Yes, with toric lenses. Astigmatism means the front of the eye focuses light unevenly, so a lens needs different power in different directions. A toric lens has that built in and is designed to settle in a fixed position on your eye, so the correction lines up. Regular (spherical) colored lenses don't correct astigmatism, which is why many people with astigmatism find them blurry.

Colored toric lenses add a color pattern to that toric design, so you get clear vision and a new eye color in one lens. Fewer manufacturers make them than standard colored lenses, which is why they can be hard to find. Some people with low astigmatism are comfortable in regular lenses; your eye doctor can tell you which you need.

What your prescription needs to include

To order colored toric lenses you need a current contact lens prescription (a glasses prescription isn't enough) that includes:

  • Sphere (SPH): your nearsighted (minus) or farsighted (plus) power.
  • Cylinder (CYL): the amount of astigmatism correction.
  • Axis (AX): the direction of the correction, from 0 to 180 degrees.

If your prescription doesn't list cylinder and axis, or it has expired, book a contact lens exam first. At Misaki you upload a copy of your prescription at checkout, and your lenses are made to those values.

How to choose a shade

The biggest factor is your natural eye color:

Check the photos on each product page to see how a shade looks before you choose. See every option in our colored contacts for astigmatism collection (colored toric lenses, or coloured toric lenses if you're in Canada or the UK).

How long do they take?

Most colored toric lenses are made to order for your exact sphere, cylinder and axis, so they take longer than standard lenses: currently 28 to 35 days from your order. If you need lenses sooner, Cotton Brown Ready Stock Express is already made in common astigmatism prescriptions and ships within 3 to 5 business days. Read more in why toric lenses take longer.

Wearing and caring for colored toric lenses

  • They are monthly lenses: replace them 30 days after opening.
  • Remove them before sleeping and follow your eye doctor's daily wear time.
  • Toric lenses are designed to settle in the right position. Blink a few times after inserting. If your vision stays blurry or a lens keeps turning, take it out and contact your eye doctor.
  • Clean and store them in fresh multipurpose solution after each wear.
